2025 DRIVE TECHNOLOGY Ships in ALL CANDCNC CONTROLLERS!
Drives Most common 23 and 34 frame Steppers from 3/5A up to an impressive 7A.
NEW TECHNOLOGY brings BETTER, FASTER and SMOOTHER motion for low cost conventional STEPPER MOTORS. Advanced internal protection keeps your drivers safe from output shorts, cross wiring, overheating and open coil /bad connections. The SmoothMover II“Big Boy” is a new generation of stepper drivers that brings modern high speed microcircuits and advanced engineering to the motion control industry. It blends new control and sensing techniques and modern dedicated microprocessor advances to a segment that is decades old. The advantages of steppers: low cost, no required tuning and a wide range of standard sizes and ratings are well known. Their downside has been the inherent physics of “stepping” from one pole to the next and the resulting vibration and noise along with resonance and lack of torque control. Steppers are especially noisy at lower RPM. While micro-stepping and anti-resonance has helped that, there still remains a lot of issues, servos are smoother and provide feedback but come at a high price and with a more complex setup and tuning requirements.
The SmoothMover II “Big Boy”offers a solution to a lot of the stepper issues. Its Adaptive Torque lets the motor work at whatever torque it needs to move the load so it runs cooler and smoother. The internal step blender converts discreet hard steps (16 micro steps) into a 256 step smooth current sine wave. It’s been know for a long time that steppers run better on an AC waveform than pulsed DC. The downside was it reduced torque at higher RPM and worked better on fixed (lower) RPM installs, not the wide range of speed needed on a CNC machine.
Each drive has built in overload, over temp and open leg detection and our ability to detect and instantly shut down motor power and motion, reliability is increased. Our system “talks” to each driver and can report the driver that shut down and the reported fault.
USES: Upgrade and existing Legacy , G5 orBladerunner to use tow higher torque 34 980 oz-in motors or any 5 to 7A 34 motor CAUTION: The SmoothMover II “Big Boy” draws more current driving bigger motors. Its important that the POWER SUPPLY in the system has the capabily of the ADDED laod. Factor in at least 1/2 the motors rated AMPS as the added load on the power supply. Most CandCNC Controllers have adeqaute power to handle adding two 6 to 7A rated motors in place of the existing 3.5A steppers. DO not try to uppgrade all 4 motors ! IMPORTANT The SmoothMover II “Big Boy ” will NOT replace the Gecko G201 or 203 drivers running at 68 to 78 Volts! The MAX volage of the Smooth Mover II is 50VDC . YOU Cannot replace the driver modules in a big Plazpak or in the later G5 XL series. If you have a need to frive more than two of the bigger motors and want to use the new SmoothDrivers technology contact use about a possible solution /Retro of the main power supply/
