ISS-05 IntelligentSpindleSpeed. Works with CommandCNC™ to give you “Stall Prevention” for a router when using a specified VFD with RS485 port.
Processor based plug-in module uses existing CandCNC RS485 4 port hub.
“Stall-Stopper ” technology.
Usable with older Analog (0-10vdc) VFD’s but (with no stall prevention).
Torque feedback via RS485 to CommandCNC™ displays in a bar graph with sliding preset.
XY feed rate is reduced as soon as torque hits preset and avoids a stall then slowly tries to move the speed back to full velocity.
Comes with a semi-auto tool change (SATC) sub routine that uses a tool setter / touch off to move to a load position, move over and touch off, reset the tool length offset and continue the cut. No more breaking jobs into separate files for different tools. Screen prompts tell the operator which tool to load .
User interface is clean and has the settings for the tool change position in XYZ and the touch off sensor position
Has built-in ESTOP on VFD fault back to Control .
Use with a Router table or with a combo plasma / router setup. Can be added to any existing CommandCNC / LINUX based system that has our RS485 communication buss.
WELCOME to the next generation of Commercial Level Spindle Control for CNC router tables. Using the exclusive CandCNC RS485 communications bus the ISS-05 gives you unequaled control of the RPM , ON/OFF and FWD / REV of an air or water cooled spindle through a VFD. Packaged with the latest CommandCNC, you get features you would expect on an expensive spindle on a dedicated router. Now you can build a heavy duty router with a 3 to 10 HP spindle with quick change collets (ER type) and walk off and let the Intelligent electronics keep the job from becoming scrap if it bogs down in a cut or has other load / torque issues. While the ISS-05 can be used with older VFD’s that use an analog 0-10 VDC speed control and on/off and fwd reverse signals, it’s a true commercial level device when used with a VFD that has RS485 connections. Packaged with cables for both Analog or RS485 connections
The ISS-05 is a Commercial Grade Spindle Control solution.. it is unique with features that let you cut more efficiently and at higher feedrates without worrying about overloading the spindle and stalling it and ruining the work. When paired with a a VFD that supports RS485 interface you can:
Control the Spindle RPM digitally.
Turn the spindle on/off from g-code or from screen buttons
Reverse spindle direction from code or the screen
Pause motion until spindle reaches full RPM
Set / change Spindle RPM from G-code
Override spindle RPM and feedrates from User interface
Monitor and display the spindle load (torque) while cutting
Set load trigger pints that detect torque loading.
Slow down XY feedrates to drop torque loading and preventing a stall
Ramp back to full feedrates once overload is no longer detected. Slower ramp up to full speed prevents oscillation
Tired of having to run separate cut files for each tool in a job? Fed up with having to do a manual touch off for each new tool? The Spindle Speed control and User interface from CandCNC offers you options. 1. Install a mechanical touch off “tool setter” with ove-run ESTOP sensing in a fixed location on the table. 2. Setup the tool change position in CommandCNC for the manual swap of the tool (XYZ move to spot). 3. Set the XYZ position to the top of the tool setter device. 4. Set top of material with first tool and zero . 5. Use Candcnc POST for SheetCAM or Vectric with toolchange option.. 6. On tool change, Machine stops cutting , moves to tool change location with spindle off, and prompts operator with tool name to change to Using a spindle with ER collets preloaded with tools the process takes seconds . 7. New tool touches off , tool offset is set for new tool and job continues to cut .
Q Where should I mount the ISS-05 ? A. The ISS-05 module should be mounted close to the VFD it’s controlling. The communications back CommandCNC is via the RS485 4 port hub so its highly noise resistant. In testing we used double sided tape to stick it to the case of the VFD. The wires sullied are only 3ft long. Longer runs are not suggested.
Q. What if I have an older VFD ? Will the ISS-05 still work? A. Yes, if your VFD supports a 0-10 VDC analog speed control. It should also support remote ON/OFF with a relay/switch. It can be connected to have a separate ON/OFF and Forward/Reverse or a combo. You will not have the most important feature and that is the Dynamic Stall prevention .
Q. What is the hardest part of the setup? A. It’s the setup of the VFD itself. The ISS-05 just plugs in and connects to the RS485 Buss and shows up as a new DEVICE in the Hub Utility. It will detect if it sees the VFD RS485 at the other end. Every VFD is slightly different.
Q. I have another brand of VFD besides what is listed as supported models. It has an RS485 port, will it work? A. Each VFD has its own settings and its own RS485 protocol and code set. We are going to get it working with other major brands of VFDs but unless there is clear documentation on the RS485 commands and protocol it’s not likely to get done.
Q. So what is so great about having Dynamic Stall Prevention? A. This whole project started (as most do) when we set a heavy duty VFD and spindle up to do some facing with a 2″ fly cutter on heavy timbers (internal project). It was a HUGE PITA having to keep my finger on the feed rate slider and listen to the spindle as it stared to bog down as it cut thicker and then speed it up in the flatter spots. Not only did it take many times longer to cut even a second of inattention and the spindle would stall and attempt to drag the work piece around.
Q. I see in the photos you have your VFD mounted very close to your spindle…why is that? A. The output of a VFD is not a pretty sine wave. It’s got all kinds of noise in it and it’s at high current so it radiates along the wires. The longer the wires the worse it gets. The shorter wires keep the noise radiated down. The manual shows how to add ferrite toroid cores to help on longer runs but running VFD to Spindle wires alongside other signal wires is a potential problem. While some of the noise will reflect back on the AC lines into the VFD an AC noise filter will stop that .
Q Will the ISS-05 work with my older MACH based controller or a controller from some other vendor? A. Sorry but the answer is no. The custom interface and the RS485 communications are specific to our products and the custom screens and data won’t work with MACH based products.
